Impact of fin geometry and surface roughness on performance of an impingement two-phase cooling heat sink

Jet impingement two-phase cooling is often used to handle the high heat fluxes of high-performance electronics. While much literature focuses on thermal–hydraulic performance, effects fin geometry transfer and pressure drop have not been thoroughly investigated. This study was undertaken examine those factors more closely. The performance a sink studied for three different configurations: microchannel, pin array, bare copper surface. A block with top surface area 1"×1" mimic computer chip. dielectric coolant Novec/HFE 7000 flow boiling transfer. It observed that when original microchannel cut into array sink, thermal improved by 51% decreased 18%. performs better than sink. Effects enhanced roughness also 9% improvement in Comparison existing correlations pool led mean absolute error below 12.8%, so new correlation developed has 2.4%.
